This resolution coupled with earlier resolutions in the General Assembly such as A/Res/42/37C adopted41 in 1987 requested the Secretary-General to conduct investigations in the alleged use of chemical and biological weapons in response to reports brought to his attention by Member States, as well as: …with the assistance of qualified experts provided by interested Member States, to develop further technical guidelines and procedures available to him for the timely and efficient investigation of such reports of the possible use of chemical and bacteriological (biological) or toxin weapons which led to the issue of a report42 A/44/561 on 4 October 1989 setting out procedures and guidelines for the investigation of the possible use of chemical and biological weapons.
